2/17/10 11:59 pm - (026) Wednesday, 17 February 1980( Warded private ) ( Warded to Mr Avery ) It had been some time since I last played Tchaikovsky's Souvenir d'un lieu cher and so I practiced it all last week and this week. It is far from satisfactory, there are still many things I must correct in the first act, and the third as well, though the second is better, thankfully. Surprisingly, I might say, as its pace is much quicker than the other two acts and yet it flows better for me. It was good to come back to the composer, I had not realised how much I had missed his sensibility, so different from that of Mozart, whose sonatas for violin I'd mostly been playing recently. Music truly is a god-send. I could never thank my parents enough, if they were still with us, for making me sit through lessons throughout my whole childhood. There is very little I enjoy more than playing my violin, very little that gives me comfort the way it does. Despite - or maybe because of - the difficult circumstances, we all need a moment of respite and cheer. For my part, I look forward to a snowy Christmas in the French Alps with my sister, for it's been far too long since I last saw snow for the holidays. |
